R-410a Freon vs R-22: Why is the Federal government banning R-22 freon and how will it affect me?
It’s Environmentally Friendly and if your system ever leaks, the escaping refrigerant won’t contribute to ozone depletion!
In 2010, the Federal government has mandated that R-22 equipment for HVAC systems will no longer be in production. The cost of R-22 after 2010 is uncertain, however, it is safe to assume that until the stop dead date on the purchase of R-22 old freon will be available but the costs could be extremely high.
By selecting an air conditioner or heat pump that uses R-410a you will avoid the risks associated with purchasing a product that is destined to become obsolete in a matter of a couple of years.
Benefits of R-410a
1. R-410a systems can be more reliable and operate more efficiently in extreme environments.
2. The heart of every air conditioner or heat pump is the compressor. R-410a refrigerant systems incorporate smaller but heavier-duty scroll compressors. All of the compressors that R-Energy provides are Scroll compressors.
3. Scroll compressors are quieter and operate with less damaging vibration than R-22 compressors.
4. R-410a can more efficiently absorb and release heat
5. R-410a systems run cooler which reduces the risk of overheating or burnout.
6. R-410a systems emit less HCFC's into the atmosphere if there are leaks in your system.
R-Energy LLC is a supporter of R-410a and environmental initiatives by the government and private sectors.
Replacing your HVAC System: What reasons will lead me to replace my system?
Heating & Air Conditioning systems tend to be one of the most neglected items in a home. Here are some symptoms that may lead you down the path of considering on a new heating and air conditioning system...
1. Hot and Cold spots in your home. This issue could be solved with some air flow redirection but many times the problem is deeper than it seems. For instance, there could be leaks in your evaporator coil because it had not been cleaned in several years which leads to low freon levels and higher energy costs. The problem could also lie in that your HVAC system is not properly sized for your home.
2. High Energy Bills. When you get high electric bills as a result of using your air conditioning system, and everything is working properly, there is a good chance the SEER (Season Energy Efficiency Rating) and EER (Energy Efficiency Rating) are outdated. All systems that R-Energy provides in a minimum of 14 SEER and 12 EER. The Federal givernment has set the minimum manufacturing standards at 13 SEER and 11 EER.
The higher a SEER and EER rating, the greater the energy efficiency. High energy bills are also a result of a dirty system that may just be in need a cleaning. See our Mid-Season Tune Up for more information.
Ask your sales representative which SEER and EER rating would be best for you.
3. Multiple service calls. No matter how old your HVAC system is you should rest assured that it will operate in the harshest of environments and conditions. If your system is unable to keep up with the heat and cool cycles of our region you are in for a lot of headaches and lost money. R-Energy's HVAC equipment is tested under the most extreme simulation environments possible to ensure reliability and comfort while being the most efficient and environmentally friendly.
If you would ike to learn more about how our HVAC equipment is manufactured ask your sales representative for information and details.
